Mi chiamo David Cenciotti e sono nato a Roma nel 1975. Pilota privato d’aeroplano, ex Ufficiale dell’Aeronautica Militare, giornalista pubblicista, laureato in Ingegneria Informatica, scrivo dal 1996 per alcune delle più importanti riviste aeronautiche del mondo tra cui RID, Rivista Aeronautica, Airline, Aeronautica & Difesa, Air Forces Monthly, RFA, Fighter Tactics.

Quale esperto di aviazione curo i testi dei documentari realizzati dalla Troupe Azzurra e ho curato il progetto editoriale del libro ufficiale dell’Aeronautica Militare sull’F-104, dal titolo “F-104: Storia di un mito”. Nell’ambito dell’attività giornalistica ho avuto la possibilità di volare con quasi tutti i velivoli dell’AM ed ho l’onore di potermi fregiare dello stemma “1 ora di volo su TF104″.
Perché Cencio4? E’ molto semplice, perché il mio aereo preferito è l’F-104 . Dalla fusione della parola “centoquattro” con il mio soprannome più utilizzato, “Cencio”, nacque “Cencio4″. Il nick che porto sulla tuta di volo è “Sonic”.
La foto che segue è stata scattata da Alessandro Fucito a Grazzanise il 19 settembre 2003. Io sono seduto sul seggiolino posteriore dell’MB.339A della 609^ Squadriglia Collegamenti pilotato dal Col. Gianpaolo Miniscalco dal quale scatterò le prime foto aria-aria all’F-104 999 MM6930, primo ed unico Special Colour del X Gruppo.

My name is David Cenciotti and I was born in Rome in 1975. I’m a private pilot, a former 2nd Lt. of the Aeronautica Militare (Italian Air Force, ItAF), a journalist and graduate in Computer Engineering. I’ve been writing since 1996 for major aviation magazines such as Air Forces Monthly, Revista Força Aérea, Fighter Tactics. In Italy, after working for Aeronautica & Difesa and Airline for many years, I work exclusively for RID, the most important Defense magazine, and Rivista Aeronautica, the magazine of the ItAF. As an expert in aviation, I write also some of the texts of the documentaries of the Troupe Azzurra, the ItAF “combat camera” team.

During my career as a journalist, I have build up a discreet experience flying with many of the aircraft of the Aeronautica Militare; I’m one of the few civilians proudly wearing the “1 flight hour on the TF-104” patch to witness my flight with the Starfighter back in Y2000. I’m the author of “F-104 Storia di un mito”, the only official book published by the Italian Air Force to celebrate the retirement of the Starfighter in 2004. I’m also a photographer and my pictures have been used in books, magazines, websites and calendars. This is a place to talk about military aviation, flying, photography and much more.
Why “Cencio4″? Simply: because the F-104 is my favourite aircraft and I got this nick by merging the word “centoquattro” (Italian word for “one-o-four”) with “Cencio” that has always been my nick. The nick on the nametag of my flight suit is “Sonic”.

grazie dei complimenti. Dal 2003 ho abbandonato le diapositive per passare al Full Digital e attualmente dispongo di una Canon EOS 10D sulla quale monto ottiche Canon e Sigma. La maggior parte delle foto che trovi sul sito sono state scattate in digitale con i seguenti obiettivi: Canon EF28-135 F3,5 – 5,6 IS USM; Sigma 18-50 DC F2.8 EX DC MACRO; e Sigma APO 80-400mm F4.5-5.6 EX DG OS.

Can anyone who has visited the museum tell me the where the squadron code SF is placed on Spitfire MK 805. Are they in fron of at the rear of the roundel on the right hand side of the aircraft?

Scorrendo le bellissime foto postate ho notato che sulla fusoliera di alcuni tornado italiani c’è lo stemma dello storm shadow e se non vado errato lo si applica dopo una missione di guerra..dunque non mi sembra che ultimamente ci siano state tali missioni..mi potresti dare delucidazioni in merito? Ps: il sito è bellissimo.

Quel tipo di stemma non è applicato esclusivamente dopo missioni di guerra. Ci sono casi più o meno famosi di stemmi di quel tipo applicati anche in caso di esercitazioni di tiro, dissimilar air combat training ecc. Un episodio piuttosto famoso (e recente) lo trovi qui:

e riguarda l’applicazione ad un EA-18G Growler di un F-22 kill.
Per tornare a quello nella foto, si tratta dello stemma applicato nel settembre 2006, ad uno dei tre Tornado IDS “1st Upgrade” del 154° Gruppo del 6° Stormo che si sono rischierati nella base di Overberg, in Sudafrica, per le prove di lancio del sistema missilistico stand-off MBDA Storm Shadow. La campagna di lanci, si è svolta presso il poligono di Overberg (OTB, Overberg Toetsbaan), a circa 200 chilometri da Cape Town, ed è stata coordinata dal Reparto Sperimentale.

I’m Blair J. Simundson I collected Airforce Patches as a Captain, however I lost everything to a fire. I was hoping to see if someone could send me a F104 patch, with or with out the Italy logo. Just a F104 woul;d just be nice,. Could you see what you could do. I really would be so gratefull for this. 1 or 2 thats all I would need, I love the simple red, white, Star with the words F104G with a F104 in the midel of the Star.
